“I was nearing the end of my Sophomore year when the college talk began and I was suddenly aware of the endless unknown of the process of applying to the right colleges in the correct manner. When I mentioned my concerns to my high school counselor, I was directed to Eric Danson, likely the best thing that happened in terms of creating opportunities and making informed decisions about my future. There were times when high school felt so overwhelming that prioritizing college applications and research wasn’t a task I could manage. Eric spent a lot of time getting to know me personally so that he could take some of the weight off my shoulders while also setting reasonable goals that I could achieve on my own.
I was faced with some particularly unique challenges during my time writing essays and applying for college. I had large scale issues with Fafsa, parental help, and decision-making. I felt, at times, that I could not achieve a good or even OK outcome for this year’s applications. Eric was so personable and kind that when I felt this way I would often send him a panicked text and he would respond immediately at almost any hour to make a plan to move forward.
Eric is well-informed, considerate, and experienced. However, when it came down to high-pressure situations and extreme stress: he was also a mentor and a friend. Despite the hurdles that I had to overcome as a student and a young person over these past three years, I can confidently say that I am excited about my future. I feel as though I can begin achieving my goals right away at the university I will be attending. Although I would like to take all the credit myself, I couldn’t have done it without Eric.”
